WATCH: Army, Navy reveal unique uniforms ahead of 2021 rivalry game
With the College Football Playoff and bowl games set, the college football world turns its attention to the historic Army vs Navy rivalry game. The stand-alone Week 15 fixture will kickoff on CBS at 3 p.m. ET in MetLife Stadium with some of the most unique uniforms of the season.
Each year, Army and Navy unveil their unique uniforms ahead of the matchup. However, this addition promises to have the best threads yet.
Entering the game, Army is 8-3 with a bowl game on the horizon while Navy enters 3-8 in their 2021 season finale. The Black Knights also won the 2020 installation 15-0. However, it is Navy which leads the all-time series 61-53-7 thanks to a 14-year win streak which spanned from 2002-15.
Army uniforms
With the 2021 Army vs Navy game set for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Army’s uniforms are its own tribute to the victims of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. This year’s unique features include a helmet and jersey which honor the Army Special Forces and a patch that reads “DE OPPRESSO LIBER,” meaning “to free the oppressed.”
The introductory video includes a 2001 speech from President George W. Bush and multiple shots of the September 11 memorial in New York. The jersey reveal takes place as a player steps out of the helicopter onto a runway in full uniform. The light-colored uniforms also spare no detail with camouflage helmets, special patches on the collar and the words “UNITED WE STAND” on the nameplate.

Navy uniforms
As Navy hopes for an upset win over Army to regain its form of several seasons ago, it chooses another uniform tribute in 2021. The Midshipman will embrace the “Fly Navy” theme, which comes in stark contrast to the anticipated ground-heavy attack planned for Saturday. The uniform design is an ode to the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, a classic naval jet used since 1995.
Each helmet will feature a set of one of three gold wings, which the teams indicates, “symbolizes a unique and critical group within Naval Aviation. Unable to accomplish their mission without one another, the success of the air wing depends on the ability of each individual to perform its job at an elite level.” Other unique details featured in this year’s jersey are the “Fly Navy” gloves and individual patch which recognizes each players specialty at the academy.
The video also features panoramic shots of aircraft carries and jets on a runway, showing the work pilots and personnel do on takeoff. In addition, the reveal includes a classic “Go Navy, Beat Army” logo on the side of one jet.
