WATCH: Deion Sanders returns to Jackson State sidelines after foot injury
After three games, Deion Sanders is back on the Jackson State sidelines. He underwent foot surgery in September, but was hospitalized in October due to complications.
Sanders tweeted a video Saturday afternoon, which showed him dancing in a motorized scooter while his team warmed up.
The injury apparently came from his playing days. Sanders had a decorated NFL career from 1989-2000 before returning from 2004-05. The Pro Football and College Football Hall of Famer also played professional baseball while playing football, cementing him as one of the best athletes of all time.
Sanders got into coaching at the prep level until arriving at FCS Jackson State last season. The Tigers went 4-3 last year in Sanders’ first season at the helm, but are 9-1 overall in 2021.
Jackson State has a 7-3 lead over Alcorn State at halftime of a SWAC showdown.
Deion Sanders comments on TCU head coaching job
Ever since TCU’s head coaching job became open, Deion Sanders has been linked. The Fort Worth-Star Telegram reported he interviewed for the job and impressed Horned Frog officials.
When asked about being linked with the job, Sanders was able to put some of the rumors to bed on Monday. He said he is going to finish what he started at Jackson State. Sanders went on to tell reporters to never believe what they are hearing.

“Well, TCU is not the only one interested in my services,” Sanders said. “(Jackson State athletic director) Ashley Robinson is interested in my services and finishing out what I completed. Never believe rumors, especially when I’ve been in the hospital for darn near a month. So never just go out there and believe what you hear, my man.”
To fix up a left foot injury, Sanders needed surgery. However, he had to deal with complications from post-surgery, keeping him in the hospital even longer. The head coach says he’s been thinking about his life more than taking another job.
Back to the coaching world, where Sanders claims TCU is not the only school interested in his services. He claims other people are trying to understand what he is doing with the Jackson State program.
“Trust me, TCU and several others are not the only ones interested in what we do here at Jackson State,” Sanders said. “People are trying to figure out the formula, it ain’t no formula. It’s loving on these kids, challenging these kids, holding these kids accountable, making sure they maintain themselves to be smart, tough, fast, and disciplined and that’s the secret, not everyone has this recipe.”
