WATCH: Fight breaks out between Kentucky and Tennessee
An altercation, dust-up, fight or bru-ha-ha – however you choose to define it – broke out on the Kentucky bench during the first half against Tennessee on Tuesday night. The series of events started with Volunteers forward John Fulkerson stumbling into the row of Kentucky bench players and ended with multiple technical fouls issued.
After saving a ball from going out of bounds, John Fulkerson toward a defender before crashing into the Kentucky bench. He evidently took issue with the reaction of at least one person as he fell onto the ground, talking to the row of coaches and players before reinforcements arrived.
As more people piled into the corner, the mob made its way toward the tunnel and officials rushed to separate players from each other and stop the ongoing trash talk. As Fulkerson emerged from the group with his hands in the air, several other Tennessee players did the same on their way back to the court.
Officials ended up handing technical fouls to Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler and the Kentucky bench. Head coach John Calipari is already working with one technical after arguing an early foul call against center Oscar Tshiebwe.

Washington is Kentucky’s second-leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in just under 30 minutes per contest. But he left Wildcats fans scared for his impending diagnosis following a dangerous collision against Florida. Washington quickly went to the locker room for further evaluation against the Gators, finishing his day with 10 points, five boards and six assists in 26 minutes played.
Previous reports indicated that Kentucky dodged a bullet and that the injury was not quite as serious as it looked. However, given that Washington suffered the injury a mere three days ago, his active status was far from a guarantee heading into Knoxville. Plus, Calipari was non-committal in discussing Washington’s status, labeling the star point guard “day-to-day” following x-rays in the locker room.
A 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard from Chandler, AZ, Washington was labeled a five-star recruit according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Additionally, he was the No. 3 overall point guard in the 2021 recruiting class.
