WATCH: Kirk Herbstreit's dog travels from College GameDay to Alabama-LSU
While Kirk Herbstreit is pretty much the face of ESPN’s college football coverage, there are plenty of Saturdays when he’ll start the day on the set of College GameDay and then hop on a jet to go to a completely different part of the country to broadcast a primetime game.
That was the case Saturday, as Herbstreit began his morning in Cincinnati for GameDay and then flew to Tuscaloosa to call a nighttime SEC matchup between No. 2 Alabama and LSU at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
While Herbstreit had all of that going on, the broadcaster wasn’t alone. He had his golden retriever – “Big Ben” – by his side from start to finish, as a video released by Herbie on his Twitter page shows.
Big Ben’s day began bright and early at 8:06 a.m. in Cincinnati, he was on a plane at 1:54 p.m. and then in Tuscaloosa hanging out on a bus at 3:48 p.m.
Big Ben had quite the day – and it’s no secret that he’s a big college football fan.

Florida was thoroughly outplayed in every way by South Carolina on Saturday. The Gamecocks scored 20 second quarter points and led 30-10 at halftime. Florida ran for 82 yards and 3.2 yards per carry as a team, while South Carolina had 284 rushing yards and 6.8 yards per carry. Gators quarterback Emory Jones also turned the ball over twice.
Following the latest Florida loss, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit discussed Dan Mullen and the Gators’ disappointing season.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Herbstreit said. “This is a Florida team that gave Alabama all it could handle, and I thought that would be a springboard into some special moments in their season. I’m a Dan Mullen guy, I love the guy. He is a great coach. This thing has got sideways on him. South Carolina is a huge — congrats to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks, this is the kind of win you need to justify what’s going on there.”
