WATCH: Ikem Ekwonu runs 40-yard dash at NFL Combine
While most people may enjoy watching skill position players run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the offensive linemen provide entertaining runs as well. On Friday, North Carolina State Wolfpack offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu got his opportunity to impress scouts and improve his stock toward being the No. 1 overall pick in late April.
Ekwonu had one of the best runs of the day, clocking in at 4.97 during his first attempt. Measuring at 6′-4, 310 pounds earlier, the soon-to-be high draft pick had a 10-yard split of 1.76 as well.
Later on, the combine announced Ekwonu’s official 40-yard dash time was 4.93.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars having the No. 1 pick in the draft, they could be looking to select their franchise left tackle to protect franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence. They will have a plethora of options at their disposal, with Ekwonu being one of the best. There are a few other names that will be considered as well for new head coach Doug Pederson.
In the latest NFL.com mock draft, Ekwonu is selected fourth overall to the New York Jets but is the second offensive tackle off the board. They predict Alabama Crimson Tide OT Evan Neal will be selected No. 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. After a strong combine, Ekwonu will have a case to be selected first.

NFL draft analyst Bucky Brooks gave his opinion on Ekwonu’s 40-yard time via Twitter on Friday. He said somebody the size of the offensive tackle are not supposed to move the way he does.
“Big men aren’t supposed to move like that,” Brooks said. “Icky Ekwonu is different. He’s at an elite level simply due to his athleticism and movement skills. If he becomes an A-level technician, you’re talking about a superstar. A real superstar.”
