It’s pouring rain in Kansas. That doesn’t matter to Derby (Kan.) four-star running back Dylan Edwards.

On a play in the first quarter of his high school game Friday, Edwards dashed 86 yards down the field for the touchdown. It looked like the downpour didn’t impact him at all.

Edwards is the No. 173 overall recruit and No. 8 running back in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Maize (Kan.) four-star quarterback Avery Johnson is the lone player from the state ranked ahead of him.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $42k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

The 2023 Fighting Irish recruiting class ranks third in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

Dylan Edwards Scouting Summary

Diminutive playmaker with game-breaking potential. A threat to score anytime he gets the ball in space. Has a smaller build for a running back prospect, checking in at a shade over 5-foot-8, 155 pounds the off-season prior to his senior year. A dominant runner and playmaker at the prep level, rushing for 2,603 yards, and 38 touchdowns while averaging a gaudy 12.5 yards per carry as a junior. Regularly rips off long runs, flashing outstanding burst to go with the speed to pull away once in the open field. Validated his play speed by winning the Fastest Man competition at Under Armour Future 50. Uses his lateral agility to make defenders miss tackles in confined spaces. Also shows good field vision, often cutting back across the field. Makes plays in a variety of ways – as a traditional running back, on end arounds, as a receiver out of the backfield or split out wide. Also dangerous as a kick and punt returner. Does not play top competition in Kansas and is almost always the top athlete on the field. Will need to continue adding mass to sustain a sizable workload at the college level. Can also continue improving his ball skills.
