WATCH: Taulia Tagovailoa carted off after brutal knee injury vs. Indiana
Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was carted off the field in the second half against Indiana after sustaining what appeared to be a significant injury to his right knee. Tagovailoa went down early in the fourth quarter as the Terrapins were driving to overcome a 27-24 deficit against the Hoosiers.
Tagovailoa was dropping back on a routine pass and had already thrown the ball when a defender toppled backward into him, bashing the back of his helmet against the outside of the quarterback’s right knee. With the blunt force and subsequent awkward bend and twist, he immediately crumpled to the ground and stayed there.
Maryland has inserted Billy Edwards Jr. at quarterback to try and complete the comeback.
Tagovailoa was 25-for-39 passing for 270 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions when he left the game.
And while he went 0-for-3 passing, Edwards led Maryland to a big road win. And a comeback, no less.

The redshirt freshman Wake Forest transfer instead used his legs to carry the Terps. He had five carries for 53 yards and scored what wound up being the game-winning touchdown.
Along with Edwards, running back Roman Hemby provided offensive answers for Maryland. He carried the ball 17 times for 107 yards and a touchdown of his own to pace the Terrapins backfield.
Tagovailoa will get an MRI when the team returns to Maryland, head coach Mike Locksley said
After the game, Locksley didn’t have much to offer about the status of Maryland’s starting quarterback. An MRI when the team returns to College Park after leaving Bloomington will shed more light on the severity of Tagovailoa’s injury. It will also give some clarity on if and when he’ll be back for the Terrapins this year.
Tagovailoa was apparently celebrating in the locker room with his teammates after the road victory.
