WATCH: Washington State epically trolls Washington after Apple Cup win
The Washington State Cougars on Saturday dismantled the Washington Huskies to the tune of a 40-13 victory, taking the Apple Cup trophy back to Pullman for the first time since 2012.
Washington State quarterback Jayden de Laura completed 27 of 32 passing attempts for 245 passing yards, but most of the offense came from Washington State’s rushing attack, which went for a combined 209 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Max Borghi led the charge for the Cougars, racking up 22 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. All the while, the Cougars’ defense forced Washington quarterback Sam Huard into throwing four interceptions, all but mitigating the anemic Huskies offense.
After the game’s final whistle, Washington State had some fun with its in-state rival on Twitter, making a callback to “Good Will Hunting.” The Cougars had just won the famed Apple Cup; as such, they took the “how do you like them apples?” scene from the movie and photoshopped the final score onto Matt Damon’s napkin.
Washington State’s players and fans got in on the fun, too. First, the Cougars’ fanbase, which seemed to outnumber the Huskies fans in the stadium — despite it being a road game — stormed the field in excitement. Again, the fans stormed the field — despite it being a road game.
Then, after storming the field, de Laura celebrated with the fans and planted the Washington State Cougars’ flag at midfield of Husky Stadium.

“It’s special. Coug Nation deserves it, this team deserved it, the seniors deserved it,” Washington State running back Max Borghi said, via ESPN. “I can’t really put words into it yet, it hasn’t really sunk in. But holding that Apple Cup trophy is something we’ve all dreamt about and it was incredible.”
“This win, it wasn’t just for us,” linebacker Justus Rogers echoed. “It was for the people that came before us, the teams that came before us that I’ve been a part of as well.”
