WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look PFF ranking the top ten QBs for the 2022 college football season, Braylan Shelby cutting his list down to two schools, and new USC Baseball head coach Andy Stankiewicz picking up his first commitment.

Top Ten QBs

PFF’s Anthony Treash recently released his list of the top ten QBs in college football for this season, and it was certainly an interesting one. The list featured several USC connections as well.

Current USC quarterback Caleb Williams came in at number two on the list. Expectations are sky high for Williams this year after he followed head coach Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC earlier in the offseason.

In addition, former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis made the list at number nine. After breaking numerous Trojan records during his first two years as USC’s starter, Slovis appeared poised for a big 2021 campaign. Much like the rest of the USC Football team, however, last season was largely a forgettable one for Slovis. He has since transferred to Pitt. (However, the tweet from PFF mistakenly lists him as still being at USC.)

Shelby Down to Two Schools

Four-star edge rusher Braylan Shelby cut his list of schools down to two yesterday, and USC was one of them.

A native of Friendswood, Texas, On3 Consensus ranks Shelby as the number 265 player and the number 34 edge rusher in the class of 2023. In addition to USC, Shelby’s other finalist is Texas. Right now, the Longhorns hold a slight edge over the Trojans in his recruitment.

Stankiewicz Picks Up First Commit

New USC Baseball head coach Andy Stankiewicz picked up his first commitment yesterday in Notre Dame transfer Caden Aoki.

Originally from Huntington Beach, California, Aoki played a key role in helping the Fighting Irish make the College World Series this past season. However, he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal following the departure of Notre Dame head coach Link Jarrett, who recently took the job at Florida State.

Stankiewicz faces the tough task of rebuilding a roster that lost many of its top players to the Transfer Portal. In particular, numerous USC players left the program during the lengthy period between Jason Gill’s firing and Stankiewicz’s hiring.
