There were lots of bright spots this week. It was hard to find the best of the best. High schools began in earnest last week.

The games counted. Some young players stood out and some national stars stepped even further into the spotlight. There was a litany of commitments throughout the country.

Let’s review.

Best recruiting win of week

The biggest win for a coaching staff this week has to be the highest-ranked player to commit this week. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage junior wide receiver Brandon Inniss committed to play for Oklahoma on Sunday.

The 31st ranked player in the class of 2023 will join five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson and four-star wide receiver Makai Lemon as the beginnings of an elite offense in Norman.

Inniss is an important piece to the Oklahoma class. The Sooners have produced a litany of wide receivers over the last few years. The Lincoln Riley offense is a quarterback’s playground. Nelson will be in line to replace the incumbent at some point early in his career.

Inniss assures the Sooners that they’ll have their next Ryan Broyles, Ceedee Lamb and Christian Rambo in place for their talented signal-caller.

Getting Inniss was a big win also for the Sooners from a geographical standpoint. The Sooners were able to pull Inniss away from the south’s best. This is a bold statement with Oklahoma gearing up to join the SEC in a few years.

Best stat line of week

Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill High School Travis Hunter’s stat line from the Corky Kell Classic explained why he’s the second-ranked player in the Class of 2022. The Florida State commit had 13 receptions, 232 yards, two touchdowns, a touchdown pass, an interception on defense and a tackle for loss. His performance was a driving force in Collins Hill’s 36-10 win over Brookwood in Atlanta on Saturday night.

Tweet of week

The top tweet this week comes from Powell (Tenn.) High School’s Walter Nolen. The fourth-ranked player stirred Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday.

Nolen tweeted that if he reached 11,000 followers on Instagram he’d commit. Nolen announced his top three schools on Tuesday.

His Instagram following quickly ballooned past 11,000 and into the 12,000 range. Nolen has yet to commit to a school, despite the proclamation.

Nolen announced his top three schools on Tuesday. Texas A&M, Tennessee and Georgia made the cut.

MVP recruiter for week

The MVP on the recruiting trail this week is Bobby Kennedy, wide receiver coach at Stanford. The Cardinal landed top 50 defensive lineman Ernest Cooper of Arlington (Texas) Martin High School on Monday.

Cooper is the highest-ranked Stanford commit in the Class of 2022.

Other commitments this week

Southaven (Ms.) Aaron Bryant, No. 157 in class of 2022, committed to Texas over Ole Miss.

Covington (Ga.) Newton High School defensive back Audavion Collins committed to Mississippi State.
