For the first time since 2008, Georgia will play in the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals. On Friday, UGA head coach Wes Johnson revealed what reaching the Men’s College World Series would mean to the program.

“The first thing we want to talk about is tomorrow,” Johnson said, “but yes. I’d be naive not to say yeah, if we got there and we win that second game — for these guys, especially this group. You look at Charlie Condon, you look at Corey Collins, Fernando Gonzalez. I mean, I could go through all the guys that have been here a while. It would mean the world to them, right?”

With 24 upperclassmen on the roster, Georgia is a veteran-led group. However, no Bulldog has shined brighter than redshirt sophomore Charlie Condon. The 6-foot-6 standout leads the country in home runs (36) and batting average (.445) this season.

Johnson couldn’t be prouder of his team.

“I heard the term so many times when I got here about rebuild, rebuild, rebuild. You just know that you don’t have to rebuild,” Johnson said. “You can go out and if you do your due diligence and run your models and everything else, you can find a team that can win in your ballpark.”

Wes Johnson and Co. will kick off the Athens Super Regionals against NC State on Saturday at noon ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
