West Virginia guard Jayden Stone has entered the NCAA transfer portal. That puts one of the top scorers in the country on the open market.

Stone had a breakout season as a fourth-year player at Detroit Mercy in 2023-24, then transferred to West Virginia. However, he did not play for the Mountaineers in 2024-25 and took a redshirt instead.

He has now entered the NCAA transfer portal again and will seek a third program. He originally enrolled at Grand Canyon out of high school, spending two years there before transferring to Detroit Mercy.

Prior to his transfer to West Virginia, Stone had a monster final season at Detroit Mercy. He averaged 20.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. In addition, Stone also chipped in 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. He could absolutely fill up the score sheet.

Stone has also proven to be a quality shooter. He actually shot 51.9% from 3-point range as a junior at Detroit Mercy, though it was on relatively light volume. He cranked it up quite a bit more in his second season there, shooting 31.2% from downtown, albeit on a much heavier workload. He went 62-of-219 from deep.

Bottom line: Stone will be a coveted piece in the NCAA transfer portal. It’ll be interesting to see which schools come calling.

West Virginia adds a transfer point guard

While Jayden Stone is headed out, another key addition is headed in. Former Chattanooga point guard Honor Huff committed to West Virginia out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining after starting his career at the Virginia Military Institute.

As far as where Huff was looking in the portal, he narrow edhis choices down to five schools. He focused on the Iowa HawkeyesSt. John’s Red Storm, West Virginia Mountaineers, Vanderbilt Commodores and Pittsburgh Panthers.

Huff was phenomenal for the Mocs this past season, averaging 15.2 points, 2.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds. Now, he’ll add those numbers to the Mountaineers.

On3’s Nick Kosko also contributed to this report.
