Report: West Virginia receiver Ric'Darious Farmer plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
West Virginia receiver Ric’Darious Farmer plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, sources informed ESPN’s Max Olson.
Olson reported the planned move on Thursday morning, with the freshman receiver set to seek a new home.
Farmer played in 11 games this season for the Mountaineers, tallying six catches for 54 yards and also recording two rushes for six yards.
In addition to his time spent at receiver, Farmer also contributed some on special teams. He logged one kickoff return for 21 yards during the season.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound receiver will certainly generate some interest in the NCAA transfer portal.
Prior to enrolling at West Virginia, Ric’Darious Farmer was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 419 overall recruit in the 2024 class. He checked in as the No. 67 receiver in his class and the No. 52 overall player from the state of Florida, hailing from Melbourne (FL) Melbourne Central Catholic.

West Virginia loses Ric’Darious Farmer, Josiah Trotter
Ric’Darious Farmer isn’t the only player that West Virginia is set to lose via the NCAA transfer portal, as star linebacker Josiah Trotter also departed.
Trotter has committed to Missouri, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Trotter finished second on the West Virginia team last season 92 tackles, including 4 tackles for loss.
He is the son of NFL legend Jeremiah Trotter and the brother of former Clemson linebacker and current Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Josiah Trotter is a former three-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 53 linebacker in the country in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry Rankings.
He was injured and missed all of the 2023 season, before having a breakout year in 2024. His loss will be tough to stomach.
On3’s Matt Connolly also contributed to this report.
