Tennessee’s loss on the road against Georgia was sure to spark change in the College Football Playoff rankings as the selection committee gathered again to debate each team’s merits. However, when the Volunteers fell all the way outside the field to No. 5 and dropped under TCU, it raised additional questions.

ESPN host Rece Davis spoke with CFP Selection Committee chairman Boo Corrigan following the full reveal and asked a number of questions on the criteria. The NC State athletic director provided insight into what the 13-member panel took away from Tennessee’s 27-13 loss to Georgia.

“Well you’ve got an offense that’s averaging 47 points per game, Georgia’s giving up a little bit more than 10 points, to hold them to 13 points – I think that clearly separated Georgia in the eyes of the committee of how good they are and how well they played.

“Again, Tennessee is a really good team. Big win over Alabama, big win over LSU, and again, we’re still early in this process right now.”

As the process continues to play itself out, Tennessee remains in a good position despite the slip. With Ohio State and Michigan set to meet later in the regular season and a tough stretch for TCU, the Volunteers are very-much alive.
