What NFL coaches are saying about Joe Burrow entering 2022
Joe Burrow transferred from Ohio State to LSU to get a chance to show off what he could do in college. It turned out that he could have one of the greatest offensive seasons for a college quarterback, ever. That season made him the first overall pick, where Burrow turned the Cincinnati Bengals into a contender, going to the Super Bowl in his second season.
What’s next for Joe Burrow at the NFL level remains to be seen. However, the excitement and hype for what could be next are practically unheard of in football history.
“I hate to compare anybody to Brady, but he might be the closest thing,” a veteran NFL offensive coach told ESPN. “What, did he take nine sacks in that playoff game [against Tennessee]? Didn’t flinch. Hung in there. He’s just got a toughness about him and the ability to think through a game.”
“On the plays where you have to hang in the pocket and you know you have to wait that extra split-second to get the ball on time, knowing you’ll probably take a hit, he’ll stand in there and wait,” the coach said of Joe Burrow. “And teammates love him for that, I promise you.”

For as much talent as Joe Burrow has, that’s not what’s impressed opposing coaches. His incredible chemistry with wide receivers like Ja’Marr Chase is great, but it’s also not what catches people’s attention. Burrow doesn’t have one big highlight play that stuck in everyone’s minds, either.
Instead, it’s Joe Burrow’s toughness that he’s made a name for himself with. The Tennessee Titans tried to drive him into the ground, succeeding most of the time, and Burrow wasn’t phased. He stayed cool under pressure and proved to be a clutch quarterback.
What’s next for Joe Burrow might be a mystery, but it’s already clear what NFL coaches think makes him special.
