Will Compton amped about Nebraska's 2024 mentality, details involvement in Husker pregame hype videos
Nebraska kicked off their highly anticipated college football season with a 40-7 home win over UTEP this past weekend. Now heading into one of the most exciting games in the nation for Week 2 when Colorado visits Lincoln this weekend.
Former Nebraska player and avid Cornhuskers supporter Will Compton joined The Hard Count with JD PicKell ahead of the matchup. Speaking highly about what he’s seen from Nebraska early in the season and the overall positive vibes of this year’s team.

“I’m so juiced because I feel like we do have a good product this year … You can see the attitude and it’s awesome to see because again, you’ve watched Nebraska over the last decade, the boys are not coming out swinging like that, having that type of confidence,” Compton said.
A lot of the excitement surrounding Nebraska this season has been generated by freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. A former five-star recruit who made his first career college start this season for the Cornhuskers. Throwing for 238 yards and two touchdowns in his limited snaps against the Miners, but impressing Compton even more with his intangibles as he took the field.

“When Dylan was walking out of the tunnel walk and getting into with the fans. I don’t know how you were, but even as a veteran in the league, like when I’m going out for my first start, or I’m getting an opportunity, or when I was playing as a freshman, or sophomore, junior, senior year at Nebraska. You’re in such a fight or flight response going out to the field because you feel like you’re insanely prepared, but you’re thinking of every situation possible,” Compton explained to PicKell.
“But to have the poise and the swagger to get involved with the crowd, and this kid is 19. I’m thinking to myself, ‘Hey, I hope this isn’t like some arrogant overconfidence that he lays a dub.’ But I love just seeing him come out of the tunnel walk.”
Compton had his own unique involvement in Nebraska’s entrance last Saturday. Appearing prominently on the Jumbotron in Memorial Stadium to hype up the crowd ahead of kickoff. An opportunity he pulled back the curtain on being involved with that was clearly special to the former nine-year NFL veteran.

“Nebraska reached out, and they’re like, ‘Hey, we were we were talking it over, and we talked with Coach [Matt] Rhule, and would you be interested in doing hype videos for the Husker home games this year?’ And my response was, ‘I was born for an opportunity like this.’ And I said, ‘Absolutely, I’ll do it, and I’m like, is this gonna be played before the tunnel walk? Is it for the players? Is it for the fans?'” Compton asked.
“And they’re like, ‘The tunnel walk’s gonna happen, the band’s gonna play, then we’re gonna do some sound off, your video’s gonna play, and then the ball’s gonna get kicked off.’ And bro, the chills I got down my spine to fire up Husker nation,” Compton said. “Everybody knows how I feel about the Huskers, I loved playing there, I loved going to school there. Maybe the best decision I’ve ever made, and I am right now thinking about marrying my wife as well.”
Compton’s love for the Nebraska program is beyond evident, along with his hopes for this year’s team. A group that’s carrying themselves a little bit differently in their second year under Rhule ahead of a potentially season-defining game this weekend.
“I know was UTEP, but when you’ve watched the Huskers in recent years, but the mentality that this team seemed to have on Saturday again, leaning on guys moving the line of scribblers, there were four running backs with at least six carries, and they averaged over four yards per carry, like they were running through people’s faces to go along with Dylan,” Compton concluded.
