Winters Grady, a four-star small forward, has committed to Michigan, and head coach Dusty May, On3 has learned.

The 6-foot-6 guard at Napa (CA) Prolific Prep also took official visits to Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Creighton, and Iowa.

Grady is the first commitment of Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class.

This summer, the four-star averaged 19.5 points on 37.0 percent shooting from three with the Jalen Green Elite travel program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. Grady is currently the No. 56 overall player in the 2025 On3 150.

Grady talks Michigan

“I think the program is 100 percent headed in the right direction with Coach (Dusty) May taking over,” Grady told On3. “He’s super precise and knows exactly what he wants in his players. The facilities were also really nice and a lot of them were still being renovated.

“Their plan for me is to play in the two/three spot where I shoot the ball, come off dribble hand-offs, and just be the scorer that I am. They don’t want to have me change my game to be there and are going to let me be me.”

Winters Grady also had positive things to say about new Michigan head coach Dusty May

“I’ve never had a bad interaction with Coach May,” Grady said. “And, every time I’ve been around them all together, the whole staff seems to mesh really well. I think the fit is there purely just because they’ve said they are going to let me be me from day one.”

Winters Grady scouting report

“Winters Grady is a shot maker, that is where he shines on the basketball court. Listed at 6-foot-6, Grady has good length and he carries a sturdy frame with projectability as he continues to move forward in his career. Grady has range on his shot, able to space the floor and pull gravity to the corners. During his junior season at Prolific Prep, he showed to be a knock-down spot shooter as he bought into that role. However, over the summer, playing on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, he was a featured guy. Scoring over a point per possession, Grady showed that he could be at the top of a scouting report, get to spots, and still score the ball efficiently. Athleticism will be the question with him. While he understands team defense and help side, can he stay in front guarding on an island? The average burst can also get in the way at times finishing at the rim and in traffic. With that, Grady’s long-term role seems to be somewhere in between what he showed during the summer and during the high school season. He makes decisive decisions with the ball and he plays with a lot of confidence. There is a toughness factor to his game as well, not afraid to mix it up and does not shy away from physicality.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
