According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Wisconsin guard Camren Hunter has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Hunter will be going through the portal process for the second consecutive offseason, spending just one season with the Badgers. Another talented guard is now on the open market.

Hunter did not play too much for Wisconsin this past season. Just 11 appearances resulted in him scoring a total of three points. He shot 12.5% from the field with his lone make being a three-point attempt against Iowa during Big Ten play.

Wherever Hunter winds up next, he will be hoping to make a bigger impact. After finding success in his first two seasons at Central Arkansas, the potential is certainly there.

Honors flooded in for Hunter back as a freshman and sophomore, winning A-Sun Rookie of the Year in 2022 before earning third-team all-conference the following year. There was a gap between games played for him due to an injury. Hunter took a redshirt for the 2023-2024 season before leaving the program.

The numbers with Central Arkansas look better, too. Hunter averaged 15.5 points per game with the Bears, adding five rebounds and 3.7 assists. His field goal percentage was well over 40%, proving he can be an efficient offensive player.

Greg Gard breaks down final play in NCAA Tournament loss vs. BYU

Greg Gard broke down the final play call in Wisconsin’s 91-89 loss to BYU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The third-seeded Badgers were upset and everyone left stunned.

It came down to the final play, but John Tonje missed a jumper that would’ve tied the game to send it to overtime. But Gard doesn’t regret the decision.

It’s a play call, or at least a situation, that he’d do the same. Give the ball to Tonje with advancement on the line.

“No. Put the ball in my best player’s hands,” Gard said postgame. “And we were in a flat alignment with some bumping action with the bigs on the two other guards, and it was his decision on what — you trust your players. We’re not in this position without John Tonje. We don’t have that comeback. We don’t have the year and win 27 games without J.T.

“We made the decision, we were coming down, we had done it before. Put the ball in your best player’s hands and let him go make a play.”
