Wisconsin linebacker Jake Chaney ejected for targeting, will miss first half of Alabama game
Wisconsin linebacker Jake Chaney was flagged for targeting and ejected from a game against South Dakota in the second half on Saturday, meaning he’ll miss next weekend’s contest against Alabama.
Chaney was ejected for a hit near the goal line where he appeared to strike the defender through the chest. However, he also appeared to lower the crown of his helmet to do so.
It was a bang-bang play and a bit difficult to decipher, leaving some Wisconsin fans frustrated with the call.
It was a huge decision given the magnitude of the upcoming game against Alabama. You can view the hit below.

Chaney is a huge impact player for Wisconsin. He’s coming off a season in which he logged 80 tackles, 7.0 tackles for a loss and 3.0 sacks. In his career he has totaled 123 tackles, 11.0 tackles for a loss and 4.0 sacks.
But he’s been playing his best football of late and is a clear tone-setter for the defense.
Not having him available against Alabama will be a significant blow for a team looking to establish itself in Year 2 under coach Luke Fickell.
The two powerhouse programs are set for a noon kickoff on FOX next Saturday, with the meeting coming at Camp Randall Stadium. The two programs have met only twice, splitting them 1-1. Alabama won the last meeting, in 2015.
