Former San Diego State QB Danny O'Neil signs with Wisconsin
Former San Diego State quarterback Danny O’Neil tells On3 he’ll play his next chapter at Wisconsin.
The Indianapolis product visited Madison over the weekend and locked in with head coach Luke Fickell and the Badgers on Monday.
“Just a familiarity with Coach Fick and the plan they have for me moving forward,” O’Neil said. Fickell offered him when he was in high school.
O’Neil also wanted to get back closer to home in a place he could see himself thriving.
“And being back in Big Ten country,” O’Neil said. “I also really like what Coach (Jeff) Grimes does offensively and liked everything about him and the time spent with him on the visit.”
O’Neil won the starting job as a true freshman this past fall completing over 63 percent of his passes for 2,181 yards and 12 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

The 6-foot, 195-pound O’Neil was an Elite 11 Finalist in high school and was a three-year starter for Indianapolis Cathedral. He totaled 7,786 yards through the air in his career along with 98 touchdowns with 62.6 completion percentage while running for 1,326 yards and 27 more scores.
O’Neil originally committed to Colorado before following lead recruiter Sean Lewis to San Diego State.
We still expect Wisconsin to try and sign an elder statesman at quarterback out of the transfer portal. The Badgers have already been busy to date.
