Each week during the season, On3 selects a national Group of Five head coach of the week.

Our choice for Week 6: Wyoming’s Craig Bohl.

For the second time this season, Bohl led the Cowboys to a win over a top-25 team. Wyoming beat No. 24 Fresno State, 24-19, to end a 14-game winning streak for the Bulldogs that dated back to last season.

It was the second-longest win streak in the nation behind only Georgia.

The Cowboys jumped out to a 24-7 lead and then held on for the win, eventually sealing the victory with a late interception.

“I thought Fresno State came back and made some good adjustments in the second half,” Bohl said after the game. “A heckuva a football game. We beat a good team and put ourselves in a good position moving forward. We were able to control the clock for the most part, and I was proud of our defense to hold Fresno State to a field goal in the first half.”

Wyoming, which hasn’t won more than eight games since 1996, is now off to a 5-1 start. The only loss was to Texas in a game that was tied at 10 through three quarters.

The Cowboys opened the season with a victory over Texas Tech, which was ranked in the Coaches Poll to open the season.

Honorable mention

UAB’s Trent Dilfer: Behind Dilfer, UAB bounced back from a four-game losing streak with a 56-35 win over USF. USF had won its previous two games, which came after the Bulls were tied through 40 points during an eventual 17-3 loss to Alabama in Week 3.
