In LSU‘s 34-17 win over UCLA on Saturday, Tigers cornerback Zy Alexander left the game after reportedly suffering a concussion. On Monday, LSU head coach Brian Kelly provided an update on Alexander’s status for the Tigers’ upcoming game against South Alabama this weekend.

“Right now, we would list him as questionable, but that could change,” Kelly said. “We don’t have to get into that reporting, because it’s not an SEC game, but I would say he’s questionable right now. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow but we’ve got some flexibility there.

“I feel good about the corner situation. We’ve got some depth there. We can move some guys around. [We have] position flexibility, with Javien Toviano [able to] flip over to corner as well. So we’re in a pretty good position there.”

Alexander recorded two tackles against the Bruins before leaving the game. Alexander’s concussion is only the latest injury he’s been forced to deal with. The senior DB also missed LSU’s season opener against USC while he concluded his recovery from his torn ACL last season.

Now, Zy Alexander will again have to work to return to the gridiron. On Saturday, LSU will square off against South Alabama at 7:45 p.m. ET. The game will air live on the SEC Network.

Brian Kelly provides Harold Perkins injury update

Alexander wasn’t the only LSU player who suffered an injury in the Tigers’ win over UCLA. On Monday, Brian Kelly confirmed that star linebacker Harold Perkins is out for the season with an ACL injury.

“Obviously the one thing that we’re not excited about is the injury that a lot of you saw that was out there on social media. Harold Perkins will be lost for the season with a significant knee injury,” Kelly said. “We’re not certain about the specifics relative to time and place for surgery but looks to be an ACL injury. And again, more details relative to that I can’t get into right now.”

Harold Perkins was injured during the fourth quarter of LSU’s victory over the Bruins. The New Orleans native suffered the injury while lowering his shoulder to make a tackle. Kelly believes LSU will be OK moving forward, but he feels awful for Perkins.

“Certainly an injury that we feel terrible about, especially for Harold and the work that he’s done to put himself in a great position,” Kelly said. “Look, you lose players all the time. You just feel terrible for them individually, because of all the work and time they put in. We’ll have somebody else step up, like we have this year, right.”
