The LSU Tigers were in a battle with the UCLA Bruins on Saturday. Unfortunately, LSU had to deal with a number of injuries to their players. The good news is right tackle Emery Jones Jr. returned to the game at the start of the second half. A few minutes into the second half, LSU radio updated the injury status of corner Zy Alexander and safety Jardin Gilbert. According to the radio broadcast, Alexander has a concussion and will not return to the game. Safety Jardin Gilbert is questionable to return to the game with an injury to his shoulder.

They weren’t the only players injured for LSU. They also suffered an injury to star linebacker Harold Perkins. Perkins was seen shortly after limping off the field with LSU trainers and staff. He eventually made his way into the locker room and didn’t return to the game. Following the game, Tigers head coach Brian Kelly said he will have to undergo some tests over the next two days to determine the severity of his injury. He did confirm that it was an issue with his knee. LSU should have more information Monday.

News and notes from LSU-UCLA game

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was sharp yet again, completing 32 of his 44 passes. One of the highlights was a beautiful 45-yard touchdown strike to receiver Kyle Parker down the right sideline. Parker somehow managed to stay on his feet, stumble into the end zone, and not turn the ball over.

LSU freshman running back Caden Durham scored on a 35-yard screen pass, putting his electrifying speed in the open field on fine display. Tigers receiver Aaron Anderson continues to be a man of consistency for the receiving corps. He hauled in six catches for 75 yards on Saturday.

UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns for the Bruins, but lost a fumble in the first half and threw an interception in the second half. The LSU defense surrendered 17 points in the first half, but responded in the second half, completely shutting out the Bruins for the win.

The temperatures in Baton Rouge near the end of the game were in the 90s and the heat was only made worse by the humidity. Many fans were receiving medical attention, and there were even people passing out in the stands. Following the game, LSU head coach Brian Kelly commented on the situation.

“We would prefer later games, but we are beholden to what the national (TV) audience is,” Kelly said in an article written by the Associated Press. “I feel bad and I hope everyone is okay. I did see visually that there weren’t many fans in the stands (across from LSU’s bench) because the sun was pounding on them.”
