DEC. 27, 2023 UPDATE: The 1861 Foundation officially recognized on social media that it is no longer operating. PREVIOUS INFORMATION: Launched in late January 2023, the 1861 NIL Foundation aims to educate Washington athletes on NIL while creating opportunities and connecting businesses with Huskies. The name refers to the University of Washington’s founding in 1861. Catherine Clark, a former swim athlete at the school, founded the collective and will serve as executive director. Four former Husky football players will sit on the Board of Directors: Steve Emtman, Mario Bailey, Will Dissly and Lawyer Milloy. The 1861 NIL Foundation hopes to bring camps to Husky hometowns both inside and outside the state of Washington. The idea was sparked from Clark assisting in Devin Culp, Carson Bruener and Sam Huard all holding successful camps this past summer. A registered non profit, the group will accept tax-deductible donations. But Clark plans to place a significant emphasis on education, focusing on topics such as brand-building, marketing and community service.
