The prices of former ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s old cell phones have been revealed. He auctioned them off as memorabilia to fund St. Bonaventure NIL, where he is now the basketball GM.

The eight-day auction netted a total of nearly $18,000. Wojnarowski’s most expensive phone sold for $5,000, which is insane to think about.

Which phone was that? Well, it was Woj’s iPhone used to report Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to the Nets, Anthony Davis to the Lakers and Paul George and Kawhi Leonard to the Clippers.

Remember the phone Wojnarowski used to report the NBA suspended the season due to COVID in March of 2020? We certainly do. It sold for $3,250.

Wojnarowski was so respected in the field that fans began to refer to breaking NBA news as “Woj Bombs.” Wojnarowski helped usher in the social media era of sports media by quickly reporting news via his Twitter account, where he garnered over six million followers.

Wojnarowski’s decision to put pieces of history from his former job up for auction is only his latest move to try and bolster St. Bonaventure’s NIL efforts. After all, Wojnarowski made it clear upon his retirement that he wasn’t worried about his personal finances.

The move was made in part because he was burnt out, Wojnarowski told Sports Illustrated. He was always working, always breaking news, never able to check out for a bit and live a normal life.

St. Bonaventure was looking for a general manager for its men’s basketball program, and after helping lead the search, Woj thought that taking the job himself might be the best move. The team is currently 19-10 this season.

“What I was doing, it just wasn’t fulfilling anymore,” Woj told SI. “I was just done. This is what gets me excited. To learn something new, to be part of something like this. It’s a whole new challenge.”

Wojnarowski was also diagnosed with prostate cancer last March, which made stepping away from ESPN and working for St. Bonaventure even more appealing. Woj told SI that he has no symptoms and the cancer is “pretty limited in scope.”

Wojnarowski reached out to former Villanova head coach Jay Wright before stepping away, he told SI. Wright informed Woj that when he decided to leave coaching, he did so because he felt like he was never present with his family. Woj certainly understood that feeling, and it’s part of what led him to leave his job at ESPN.
