One of the stars of the first two rounds of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, McNeese State manager Amir “Aura” Khan made history as one of the first student managers to ever sign NIL deals. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported just how much those agreements are worth.

Khan is up to 12 NIL deals and earning more than six figures, according to Norlander. He initially signed three deals ahead of March Madness – TickPick, Buffalo Wild Wings and Insomnia Cookies – and his status as a social media sensation continued to grow as McNeese took down Clemson in the Round of 64.

As the Cowboys got to March Madness, Khan continued to add NIL deals with companies such as Intuit TurboTax, Under Armour and Topps. It paid off in a big way as he became the face of McNeese State’s run to the tournament.

Khan is in his second season as a student manager at McNeese under Will Wade. Amid his journey to becoming a social media sensation, a quote on his official team bio took off, as well. He summed up his time with the Cowboys by appropriately describing the role he plays.

“If they kept manager stats for rebounding and wiping up wet spots on the court, I’d put up Wilt Chamberlain numbers,” Khan said.

Amir Khan has developed a strong social media following the last few weeks as McNeese makes school history. He has more than 28,000 followers on TikTok, 83,000 on Instagram and 11,000 on X. Those numbers have spiked following the first-round upset of Clemson.

“He is incredible,” Wade recently said of Khan. “His dad is a doctor in town, so his dad was actually on the court after the game when we were celebrating last night. I said, ‘How’s it feel to have a famous son? More famous than anybody in the town?’ And he was laughing.

“But he’s a phenomenal kid, phenomenal young man. He’s getting his degree in sports management at McNeese. He wants to go into athletics, and certainly, we’re going to help him start his career.”

McNeese’s season came to an end Saturday with a loss to Purdue in the Round of 32, but Amir Khan’s journey is apparently just starting. He is expected to follow Will Wade to NC State, where he’s expected to sign a six-year contract as the next Wolfpack men’s basketball coach, and likely receive upgraded responsibilities in the process.
