The Texas Longhorns continue to show some serious NIL flex thanks in part to local car dealership Vanguard Volkswagen.

Two weeks ago, the Austin, Texas, dealership announced NIL deals with Longhorn football players Johntay Cook IIJustice FinkleyAnthony Hill and Kelvin Banks. And their roster of NIL partnerships has grown to double digits this week with the announcement of new NIL deals with Malik Muhammad, Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey, Roschon Johnson, Quinn Ewers, Jaylan Ford and DeAndre Moore Jr.

The announcements were made either through Vanguard Volkswagen’s Instagram account or on the individual players’ social media handles.

Typical NIL deals with car dealerships involve the players promoting the business on social media and also in commercials. In return, players drive luxury loaner cars around town. It’s become one of the most common trends in the NIL space with players receiving rides like GMC trucks, Dodge Chargers, Ram TRX Hellcats, Mercedes-Benzs and even Porsche Macans.

Texas signees advantage of new NIL opportunities

In the post announcing his partnership with Vanguard, Muhammad is seen in front of a Tesla Model X normally valued at more than $100,000. Muhammad arrives in Austin as one of the top recruits in the Longhorns’ 2023 recruiting class. The Dallas South Oak Cliff four-star prospect is the No. 52 overall player in the On3 Consensus and the fourth-ranked cornerback in the country.

Because he played high school football in Texas, Muhammad was not able to participate in NIL activities. Yet, now that he’s in Austin, he’s able to start executing deals. So, don’t be surprised if the deal with Vanguard Volkswagen is just the beginning for Muhammad. He has a massive On3 NIL Valuation of $236,000 and more than 40,000 followers on social media.

DeAndre Moore Jr. – a receiver from Los Alamitos (California) St. John Bosco – is another On3 Consensus four-star recruit in the Longhorns’ 2023 class that’s already in Austin and will also be able to take advantage of newfound NIL opportunities. Moore has an On3 NIL Valuation of $171,000.

Deals like this are also important for returners like star quarterback Quinn Ewers and linebacker Jaylan Ford, who announced in mid-January he was back for his senior season.

The announcements continue to show that Texas is going to be a major player in the NIL ecosystem after fans have seen how deals have impacted roster management and player retention with top programs across the country.

The deals also show that there’s also value for brands working with players like Roschon Johnson, who announced in December that he was declaring for the NLF draft.

About the On3 NIL Valuation

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV).

A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation establishes the overall NIL market and projected 12-month growth rate by measuring two categories, Brand Value Index and Roster Value Index.

The Brand Value Index measures the national licensing and sponsorship market. The Roster Value Index collects data from all school Collectives into a proprietary Roster Management software. Brand Value and Roster Value are combined to create the overall NIL market.

Using the overall NIL market size, the On3 NIL Valuation calculates an athlete’s Brand Value and Roster Value by using dynamic data points targeting three primary categories:

+ Performance
+ Influence
+ Exposure

While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career. The On3 NIL Valuation calculates the optimized NIL opportunity for athletes relative to the overall NIL market and projects out to as long as 12 months into the future. The On3 NIL Valuation is publicly available. Performance, Influence, and Exposure ratings along with the athlete’s personal Brand Value Index and Roster Value Index are available only to the athlete in the “Athlete Verified” private dashboard on the On3 Athlete Network.
