According to Stewart Mandel of The Athletic, a class of 2023 five-star prospect has signed a multi-million NIL deal and is thought to be the largest deal ever for a non-professional athlete. The name of the recruit was not named, keeping his identity secret from the public.

Up to $8 million could be included in the deal per the report, with $350,000 coming immediately. From there, the current high school senior will receive monthly payments for as much as $2 million each year. He will then have to make public appearances and “participate” in social media promotions for the third-party company.

“On Friday, a five-star recruit in the Class of 2023 signed an agreement with a school’s NIL collective that could pay him more than $8 million by the end of his junior year of college, The Athletic has learned,” the report said. “He’ll be paid $350,000 almost immediately, followed by monthly payouts escalating to more than $2 million per year once he begins his college career, in exchange for making public appearances and taking part in social media promotions and other NIL activities ‘on behalf of (the collective) or a third party.'”

Latest NIL valuation rankings in On300

The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

The NIL valuation is comprised of a number of dynamic data points that focus on two primary factors – an athlete’s social media presence and their level of athletic performance.

A base valuation is generated from the number of followers on each social media platform an athlete has (Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok). Each platform is weighted differently based on the number of marketing dollars that brands and advertisers typically spend on each.

On3 recently laid out the 2023 prospects with the highest NIL valuations.

Arch Manning, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2023 On300 rankings, currently has a NIL valuation of $1.6 million — by far the most in the class. While he is not super popular in the social media world, being an elite quarterback and having the Manning name factor into the valuation.

Three names within the top 10 have a valuation over $100,000 in Rodney Gallagher, Daeh McCullough, and Malachi Nelson. The first two are huge on social media, specifically TikTok, while Nelson is the No. 2 prospect in the On300 and is committed to playing for Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans.
