Netflix released Season 2 of Last Chance U: Basketball earlier this week. And while the episodes featuring charismatic coach John Mosley and the East Los Angeles Huskies basketball squad have earned rave reviews, nothing compares to the seasons that featured former Independence Community College football coach Jason Brown.

Brown became an instant celebrity in Season 3 of Last Chance U with fans and coaches because of his tough demeanor. He led the Pirates to their best record ever and the program’s first bowl game in school history in 2018. And while his time at Indy C.C. ended in controversy, he still has a huge fan base and following today. He is highly active on social media and his “The Coach JB Show” on YouTube has thousands of regular viewers.

With all that in mind, Leaf Trading Cards released a new card on Tuesday featuring Brown as part of its Pop Century Influencer series. The card is available on Leaf’s website and features his autograph and one of his iconic photos from his time at Indy C.C. The card is currently selling for $19.99 and is print to order. Leaf’s website says it will only be available until Dec. 27.

“As a company, we wanted to give collectors and fans a unique chance to bring home a special collector’s item from the hit Netflix series ‘Last Chance U,’” CJ Breen with Leaf told On3.  “Millions of fans year-round tune in to watch the inspiring stories from the junior college level.

“The show brings to light the harsh reality of what it takes to play at the next level. We believe it was a no-brainer to work with Jason as he was a focal point for seasons three and four. Love him or hate him from the show, he is must-watch TV.”

Leaf Trading Cards heavily involved in college sports

The Jason Brown card is Leaf Trading Card’s latest foray into the world outside of professional sports. In late November, Leaf introduced a series featuring On3 Consensus five-star Tennessee quarterback commitment Nico Iamaleava. The cards were made possible through a NIL deal.

It’s clear that Leaf has made college sports a big part of its focus for the future. Plus, it sounds like more are on the way – even maybe on the junior college level.

“Leaf is excited to give an undervalued community such as the juco level hope as it’s every kid’s dream to be on a trading card one day,” Breen said.
