LSU RB John Emery latest to ink NIL deal with Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys
LSU running back John Emery Jr. is starting to rake in the NIL deals.
This past weekend, Emery was part of a group of LSU football players that took over a Baton Rouge Raising Cane’s as part of a NIL deal. On Monday, he was officially announced as the latest Tiger star to sign a NIL agreement with Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys.
The terms of the deal were not released.
“We are excited to welcome Tigers’ running back John Emery to #TheGTeam,” the announcement said. “Emery’s return to the Tigers will mark his best season yet – both on and off the field.”
John Emery rushed for 378 yards and three touchdowns on 75 carries throughout the 2020 season. He did not play last season. He is expected to miss the Tigers’ first two games of the 2022 season because of an academic suspension stemming from last year. LSU coach Brian Kelly said he is still hoping the suspension will be reversed before the Tigers face Florida State on Sunday.
“I’ve spoken on this before, and John’s done everything that would allow him to be in good standing in the football program,” Kelly said. “But you know, I have things that are out of my control, as it relates to who I can play. That’s not something that I can comment on.”
John Emery not only NIL deal McKernan has executed
While other schools are buoyed by successful collectives, individually Gordon McKernan has become one of the biggest NIL deal makers in the country.
Yes, he hasn’t generated as much national attention as Miami mega-booster John Ruiz and LifeWallet. But McKernan and his firm, Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys, have struck major NIL deals with LSU stars like Kayshon Boutte, Jaquelin Roy, Malik Nabers, Emery Jones and other impact Tiger players. Heck, he even did a deal two weeks ago with five-star linebacker signee Harold Perkins.
McKernan’s firm is not just focused on football.
He’s executed deals with LSU women’s basketball star Alexis Morris, top Tiger baseball players Cade Doughty and Tre Morgan, and NCAA track national champion Sean “Squirrel” Burrell. Furthermore, he’s also done deals with Louisiana Ragin Cajun players Dontae Fleming and Andre Jones.

When asked about his plans for further potential sponsorships, McKernan was clear: “I think there’s a lot of value for helping a student-athlete and at the same time helping our company, so we’re going to … do it across multiple sports,” he told WBRZ.
“We look forward to helping the LSU community in the long-term, generating goodwill both for these athletes and for the Gordon McKernan firm.”
McKernan also told Sports Illustrated the price tag for elite players is often at least $100,000 in NIL salary. McKernan said he will pay $500,000 in NIL deals this year.
