Steve Sarkisian comments on reported NIL offer Xavier Worthy received to transfer
Texas receiver Xavier Worthy was one of the most dynamic receivers in all of college football last season and earned freshman All-American honors.
This offseason, a team reportedly tried to throw six figures his way in order to entice him to hit the transfer portal and come play for their school. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian recently commented to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN on the reported NIL offer to Worthy.
“I understand it, I get it, Xavier Worthy was a heck of a player, a freshman All-American, broke a lot of records,” Sarkisian said. “Of course, people were going to try and use NIL to entice him to go to their school, so you’ve got to [be] proactive when it comes to those things.”
On3’s Gerry Hamilton had great things to say about Worthy coming into the 2021-2022 season and his eyes did not deceive him.

Worthy received tons of buzz and hype leading up to fall camp and he lived up to it and then some last season. The Fresno, California, native reeled in 62 catches for 981 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in his first season of college football. Believe it or not, at one point during his high school career, Worthy was a very underrated prospect with only one scholarship offer. According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2021 class, he was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 7 wide receiver prospect in America.
The news reports around Worthy and Pitt receiver Jordan Addison receiving potential NIL offers are just a few stories that have made many people say there needs to be reform and fast in college football. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff are heading to Washington, D.C. on Thursday, May 6th to meet with U.S. Senators about federal NIL legislation, according to Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger.
