The freshman and former Five-Star Plus+ recruit has founded “Clay’s Color Crew,” honoring his brother Clayton and supporting the Autism Spectrum Disorder community. When Clayton was diagnosed with autism in 2020, the family discovered there were limited resources and activities for high-energy kids on the spectrum.

Working with his mother, Monica McCarley, Colin Simmons has now created the 501(c)3 nonprofit, to bring autism resources and facilities to underserved areas in South Dallas. To help raise dollars, Clay’s Color Crew is selling merchandise and working with Texas-based artist Ken Womack, with 25% of the sales donated back to the nonprofit.

A Duncanville, Texas, native, Simmons was the face of the back-to-back 6A state champions. The EDGE picked the Longhorns over LSU during his recruitment. Ranked as the No. 2 EDGE and No. 15 recruit in the 2024 class, he was one of the key pieces of a Texas class that ranked No. 6 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

“I couldn’t see myself picking up the phone or answering any texts or calls from other schools,” he told On3 in December before enrolling with the Longhorns. “Look at where Texas is at right now; there’s no point of flirting with any other schools right now, especially if they’re not in the College Football Playoff.”

The true freshman is expected to contribute this fall and posted a sack in the Longhorns’ spring game. One of the top-ranked recruits of the Steve Sarkisian era, Simmons holds an On3 NIL Valuation of $500,000 and touts over 162,000 social media followers.

He signed his first NIL deal with Vanguard Volkswagen in January and has done extensive work with the Texas One Fund NIL collective.

The On3 NIL Valuation is calculated by combining Roster Value and personal NIL. Roster value is the value an athlete has by being a member of his or her team at his or her school, which factors into the role of NIL collectives. NIL in an athlete’s name, image and likeness and the value it could bring to regional and national brands outside of the scope of NIL collectives.
