UCF's John Rhys Plumlee inks NIL deal with Carl Black Orlando
John Rhys Plumlee has become a leading face of UCF athletics.
The Knights’ starting quarterback when they enter the Big 12 this season played 58 baseball games in center field this past spring, too. He has now signed his first NIL deal with an Orlando-based business.
The former Ole Miss transfer has entered into a partnership with Carl Black Auto Orlando. Plumlee will promote the Chevrolet, Buick and GMC dealership throughout this upcoming season. It’s a major step in the quarterback’s NIL career. Orlando is flowing with potential NIL opportunities.
As part of the agreement, he picked up the keys to a new Chevrolet truck. With the upcoming jump to the Big 12, expectations are high. One of the top returning quarterbacks in college football with his dual-threat capabilities, Plumlee led UCF to a 9-5 record in his first year as the starter. The former four-star recruit also led the Knights in rushing, racking up 861 yards and 11 touchdowns.
“I’m a big truck guy, so to be able to partner with the best in the biz in Carl Black, I just couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity,” Plumlee told On3. “Especially since they’re the type of people whose values really align with mine. Like I sat in Omar’s [Rodriguez] office, and we just talked about life for three straight hours. He’s a guy I know I’m going to have a great relationship with for life.”
John Rhys Plumlee’s major brand
The two-sport athlete has built a following around Orlando. He had his own doubleheader of sorts in April, playing the first seven innings of a baseball game over to the UCF spring game. This past month, the UCF-focused NIL collective Kingdom NIL partnered with Plumlee to host an “A Day in the Life” camp, where youth can be coached up in baseball and football.

It was a chance to reminisce about his busy day from the spring. The camp was a success, with kids getting the chance to interact with UCF athletes and the collective promoting its sponsors. Plumlee has been a winner in NIL, too.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder has previously signed notable endorsement deals with Dove for Men and Craddock Oil Company. He also joined the digital UCF platform, ChargeOn, run by Mercury.
The quarterback and center fielder has built up a strong brand off the field, with nearly 200,000 social media followers.
