As Jacksonville State wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner suits up for the Gamecocks in the StaffDNA Cure Bowl against the Ohio Bobcats, ESPN caught up with some of his family members from the world of professional wrestling, his father Scott Steiner, and his cousin Bron Breakker.

Speaking with the broadcast crew, Steiner spoke about his son’s future in professional wrestling, and how they’re looking to tackle the sport he knows so well when he finally hangs up his cleats with Jacksonville State.

“That’s the plan. That’s what he wants to do,” Steiner said, regarding Rechsteiner’s wrestling prospects. “Whatever makes him happy. …. He’ll be a Steiner. So that helps out. But he’s a good athlete. The sky is the limit for him. … When the times right, I’ll help him any time I can. … I’m happy for him. Watching him fulfill his athletic dreams. Once football is over, he’ll do it with wrestling.”

Football has translated well to the wrestling world in the past. Roman Reigns, who’s arguably the biggest name in the WWE at the moment, was a star at Georgia Tech as a defensive lineman. The aforementioned Breakker, Rechsteiner’s cousin, was a running back at Kent State, as well.

But what’s going to lead Rechsteiner to success in professional wrestling? Steiner put it plainly: “Be a genetic freak like myself,” he joked. “It takes a lot of work. I did it for like, 25 years. So it takes awhile. He’ll be good.”

Meanwhile, Breakker — the current WWE Intercontinental Champion — couldn’t be happier for his cousin. He believes Rechsteiner will fit right in wherever his professional wrestling journey takes him.

“It’s exciting,” Breakker added. “It’s cool to come out here and get to watch Brock, and see him perform. I was a football player myself, once upon a time, so it’s cool to just be out here, watching a football game, and I get to watch my cousin. It’s great. … I think physicality [translates from football to wrestling], first and foremost. That translates the most.

“I mean, there’s so many things that go into it, but I think football and obviously amateur wrestling are probably the top two sports that translate over to what we do. It’s in the family blood. It’s a family business. So, I think he’s going to take to it really well. I’m excited for him.”

Brock Rechsteiner is only a junior at Jacksonville State at the moment, so the professional wrestling world might wait. Whenever the time comes, he’ll have his father Scott Steiner and his cousin Bron Breakker looking out for him. Two pretty awesome names to have in your corner.
