2023 four-star OL Zechariah Owens decommitting from Clemson
McDonough (Ga.) Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy four-star offensive tackle Zechariah Owens is re-opening his commitment.
The No. 232 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2023 had been committed to Clemson since July 4.
Owens does not have a frontrunner at this time. He is looking into multiple programs. South Carolina, Florida State, Penn State and UCF were among some of the contenders during the first round of his recruitment.

Owens made the decision based on family. Clemson had a family connection for him early on. Owens is now looking for a program that allows him to be a little closer to his family, who is in the process of a move.
“The reason why I decommitted was for my family’s sake,” Owens told On3. I have nothing against Clemson at all. I just want to be near and close to my family where ever they go and stick beside them I chose Clemson at first because of the family atmosphere. I’ve had to put my own before that. I’m sorry if I let any fans or supporters down. Thank you for being beside me and I hope you all support my decision.”
Clemson still has 19 prospects committed in the class of 2023 at the moment.
