Clemson knew exactly what it needed to do against Boston College to keep its NCAA tournament hopes alive.

They are alive and well after a dominant three games against the Eagles.

The Tigers completed a three-game sweep of BC with a 5-0 victory on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Clemson outscored Boston College 26-3 over the three games. Up next for the Tigers is the ACC tournament where Clemson will look to continue to improve its resume.

“What a great way to close out the regular season here at home,” Tigers coach Monte Lee said. “I think everybody’s aware of just how important every game is for us right now as we try to do everything we can to get our club into the NCAA field of 64, and this certainly helps today.”

Starting pitching after ace Mack Anglin has been inconsistent for Clemson this season, but the Tigers appear to have finally found their Game 2 and Game 3 starters.

Geoffrey Gilbert had an outstanding outing for Clemson on Friday, before Billy Barlow followed with six shutout innings on Saturday.

Barlow allowed only one hit and had four strikeouts in the victory. Jackson Lindley and Ryan Ammons pitched well out of the bullpen behind Barlow to secure the win.

“It all starts with Billy Barlow. He was outstanding, his best start of the season,” Lee said. “I was really proud of Billy. He pitched to contact and pounded the strike zone.”

Clemson didn’t have a great day at the plate, but it did enough to secure the sweep.

The Tigers got on the board in the third inning on a sac fly by Will Taylor and added a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the final margin.

Cooper Ingle brought home a run in the seventh with a bases loaded walk, before Blake Wright followed with an infield single to push the lead to 3-0.

Reed Garris added a two-run home run in the eighth inning for the final margin.

“Offensively we did enough,” Lee said. “What a great story with Reed Garris. … Just had a heck of a weekend for us. He was ready, had great poise and composure all weekend. Proud of our club.”
