Clemson WR Justyn Ross signs free agent deal with NFL team

CLEMSON — Former Clemson receiver Justyn Ross was not selected in the NFL draft over the weekend, but Ross will still get an opportunity in the NFL.

Ross is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, his agent Tory Dandy told Clemson Sports.

Ross is the second former Clemson receiver to join the Chiefs, joining Cornell Powell, who was drafted by the Chiefs last season.

It would have been hard to imagine a scenario where Ross would be undrafted after the way his career at Clemson started.

The Alabama native had an incredible College Football Playoff run as a freshman in 2018 and helped Clemson win the national title.

He finished that season with a team-high 1,000 receiving yards.

Ross had another strong season as a sophomore in 2019, finishing with a team-high 66 receptions for 865 yards.

But after that his career started going down hill.

Ross was forced to miss all of the 2020 season due to a congenital fusion in his spine. He returned for the 2021 season but battled a foot injury and finished with 46 catches for 514 yards.

He likely slipped to going undrafted due to running a 4.63 in the 40 at Clemson’s Pro Day, as well as injuries he dealt with throughout his college career.
