Clemson Tigers DB has entered transfer portal

For the second time this week, a Clemson Tigers player has entered the transfer portal.
On Monday, linebacker Kane Patterson entered his name into the portal. Then Thursday afternoon, Clemson Sports confirmed that safety Ray Thornton is also transferring from the program.
Thornton, a redshirt sophomore from Central (Alabama) was primarily a special teams player for the Tigers in 2021. He also played some in the secondary this year as well. In limited playing time, Thornton recorded 10 total tackles and one pass deflection.
He finishes his football career at Clemson with 27 total tackles, including a tackle for loss. Thornton started two games for the Tigers in 2020.

Thornton is the sixth Clemson player to enter the transfer portal since the start of the 2021 season, joining Lyn-J Dixon, Michel Dukes, Joseph Charleston, Paul Tchio and Patterson.
The Tigers have also dealt with injuries all season as Dabo Swinney has said this year has been like any he’s ever exprienced.
Despite that, Clemson won its final five games and seven of its last eight to finish the year.
The Tigers enter the bowl game with a 9-3 record.
