Class of 2023 prospect Reid Mikeska decommits from Clemson

CLEMSON — About a month after committing to Clemson, Reid Mikeska has left the Tigers 2023 class.

Mikeska announced Thursday night that he has decommitted from Clemson. He originally joined Clemson’s class on April 13.

The tight end received an offer from Oklahoma last week and has continued to talk with other programs since committing to Clemson.

He has now opened up his recruitment.

Mikeska is ranked as the No. 540 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus rankings.

On3 ranks Mikeska as the No. 30 tight end in the nation and the No. 120 player in the state of Texas.

With the loss of Mikeska, Clemson now has three commits remaining in the class of 2023 — quarterback Christopher Vizzina, wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph and edge David Ojiegbe.

What Reid Mikeska previously said about Clemson

The departure of Reid Mikeska is a bit of a surprise considering how highly he previously spoke of Clemson.

When committing to the Tigers last month, he had nothing but good things to say about Clemson’s program.

“The culture, the coaches and the amount of love that they’ve shown me and my family, as well as the type of team they are, it just made it kind of a no-brainer,” he said.

Mikeska was also extremely complimentary of Dabo Swinney and his coaching staff.

“Coach (Dabo) Swinney is amazing,” Mikeska said. “What you see on T.V., he’s the same way in person. I’ve developed a good relationship with coach (Kyle) Richardson and Tahj Boyd, they’ve all been recruiting me really hard. I’ve been their number one guy.”

Now Clemson must turn elsewhere for its No. 1 guy.

Clemson has two other tight end offers currently out — one to Arizona native Duce Robinson and one to Georgia native Jelani Thurman.
