Former USF head coach and former Clemson offensive coordinator Jeff Scott is not planning to coach in 2023, he told Clemson Sports on Sunday.

Scott and his family recently moved back to the Upstate. However, as of now, he is planning to take the year off to spend time with his family.

Scott and his wife Sara have two young kids — Savannah and Hunter.

The former Clemson receiver spent nearly three seasons as the head coach at USF, going 4-26.

While it didn’t work out for Jeff Scott at USF, he has proven himself as one of the best receivers coaches in the country.

Scott was at Clemson from 2008-19 and recruited and developed some of the best receivers in school history, who are currently starring in the NFL. That list includes DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Williams and others.

When Scott does decide to return to coaching, he will certainly get opportunities as an assistant at the Power 5 level.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney responded to Scott being dismissed during a teleconference this past season.

“Definitely will reach out to Jeff. Know he gave it everything he could down there and it just didn’t apparently work out,” Swinney said. “But he’s a great coach, a great person, got a great family. Somebody I love dearly and know he’ll grow from it.”

In addition to working as a receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator at Clemson, Scott also played receiver at Clemson from 2000-2002.

He is the son of Brad Scott, who was an assistant coach at Florida State and Clemson, as well as the head coach at South Carolina for a stretch.

Swinney was asked last month if Scott could rejoin Clemson’s staff at some point down the road.

“I’m not getting into any of that kind of stuff, man. I just want to beat Louisville,” Swinney said said at the time. “That’s all I wanna do. That’s the only thing I’m focusing on right now, not all the hypothetical stuff.”
