Clemson added an important piece to its 2024 recruiting class late Saturday night as defensive lineman Champ Thompson committed to the Tigers.

Thompson announced his commitment at 11:09 p.m., calling his recruitment “100 percent closed.”

Thompson is rated as the No. 14 defensive lineman and No. 180 overall player in the country, according to the On3 rankings.

The Meadowcreek High star attended Clemson’s junior day Saturday, before committing to Clemson.

He was previously in town when Clemson played NC State this past season and spoke highly about that trip afterwards.

“It left a good impression,” Thompson said at the time. “I got to see them warm up and watch the coaches interact with the players and all that. They’ve got a good fan base. I got to see them run down the hill. That’s a great tradition. It was really good vibes out there.”

Thompson received an offer from Clemson in June and told On3 then that “it means a lot.”

“Knowing that I have what it takes to play for them is big,” he said in June. “I have a great relationship with the coaches. When I went on my first visit in March they showed a lot of love.”

Thompson is the fourth commit in the class of 2024 for the Tigers, joining four-star tight end Christian Bentancur, four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin and kicker Nolan Hauser.

Clemson currently has the No. 12 ranked class in the country for 2024, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

As for the 2023 class, the Tigers have the No. 10 ranked class.

In addition to Thompson, Clemson hosted several other elite players for its junior day this weekend.

One of those was five-star safety KJ Bolden. He recapped his visit to Clemson here.
