Class of 2023 RB Jamarius Haynes signs with Clemson
Roanoke (Ala.) running back Jamarius Haynes felt ‘overlooked’ until Clemson joined his recruitment. Clemson was Haynes’ first Power Five offer.
Haynes will play his college football for the Tigers after he signed with Clemson on Wednesday. He visited Georgia Tech late in the process. The Yellow Jackets made their push.
“Georgia Tech was a good place, but it just didn’t feel like Clemson,” Haynes said.
Haynes has been sold on Clemson since his official visit back on Nov. 25. The Tigers won Haynes over for a multitude of reasons. Clemson’s fan base made a mark. Running back coach CJ Spiller also played a key role in landing Haynes.
“I guess all the other schools looked over me before Clemson came,” Haynes said. “That played a part because Clemson was the first one to give me a shot.”
Haynes has built a strong bond with Spiller. He’s watched his highlights. Spiller was recently in town for an in-home visit with Haynes as well.

He’s excited to learn from Spiller.
“Our relationship is great,” Haynes said. “I’ve watched all of his highlights on YouTube. Coach Spiller was a dog.”
Jamarius Haynes ready to fit into Clemson running back room
Haynes is the second running back commit in the class of 2023. Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork three-star running back Jarvis Green. Spiller and Clemson’s staff were transparent about their plans for the class. Kobe Pace has transferred to Virginia.
The plan was always to bring in two running backs in the 2023 cycle. Haynes has talked with Green after he picked up his offer from the Tigers.
“He told me they were looking for another back even after me,” Haynes said.
