Jake Herbstreit among walk-ons leaving Tigers program
CLEMSON — Clemson has several walk-on football players who are no longer with the program, including safety Jake Herbstreit.
Herbstreit is stepping away from football to pursue other interests, a Clemson official told ClemsonSports.com. He has been shadowing the Clemson football creative media group and could pursue opportunities in that.
Jake Herbstreit is the son of ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit. He arrived at Clemson as a preferred walk-on in 2019 and appeared in four games during his redshirt freshman season.
Jake served as a scout team performer last year but did not appear in a game.
Tye Herbstreit, who is Jake’s twin brother, remains on the team as a receiver. Tye has appeared in five career games entering his redshirt sophomore season.
Other walk-ons to leave Clemson’s program include quarterback James Talton, offensive lineman Will Edwards, running back Sylvester Mayers, safety Peter Cote, defensive end Ryan Barrett and defensive end Jack Brissey.
