Dabo Swinney addresses lawsuit against Clemson defensive backs

A lawsuit has been filed against Clemson defensive backs Fred Davis and Malcolm Greene following a 2021 accident that left a U.S. Postal Service Carrier seriously injured, according to The Journal.
Greene and Davis are accused of racing each other leading up to the crash.
The lawsuit states that the mail carrier fractured her skull, spine, pelvis, ribs and clavicle, according to the report. Davis’ vehicle struck the mail carrier and it was estimated that he was driving 115 MPH leading up to the crash.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked about the lawsuit Wednesday night during his media availability ahead of Clemson’s trip to Boston College.
“I think everybody knew this was coming. It’s a civil suit and that stuff will play out,” Swinney said. “But certainly we all know there’s consequences. Even though it was a year ago and they’ve had a lot of things internally and all that stuff, that’s something where there’s going to be consequences for that for a long time. That’s life. But it doesn’t change anything as far as their status with the team.”
Greene’s involvement had not previously been disclosed publicly, but Swinney was already aware that he was also traveling at a high speed.

“We’ve known the details since it happened,” Swinney said. “It’s a very sad situation. Somebody almost lost their life. They’re really fortunate that the lady involved survived, because she’s got a lot of challenges. So again, I don’t think anybody’s surprised that now this will play out on the civil side as well.”
Like Davis, Greene has also already been punished within the program. There are not expected to be any more punishments in regards to Clemson football.
“All that stuff’s been dealt with, guys, internally. Obviously Fred has had a lot of public consequences as well, but from a legal standpoint and team standpoint, all of that is behind us,” Swinney said. “This is a civil situation that they’re going to have to deal with. It’s a personal thing they have to deal with. Again, consequences for actions and decisions.”
