SUMMARY: Iowa Women's Wrestling competes in the Las Vegas Desert Duals

The Iowa Women’s Wrestling team was back in action on Sunday at the Las Vegas Desert Duals in the Flamingo Hotel and Casino. The Hawkeyes went three-for-three defeating Adams State, #4 Colorado Mesa and #8 Simon Fraser.

In the opening dual of the day against the Adams State Grizzlies, there were two double forfeits and a five forfeits, but Iowa won all four matches. They earned Hawkeyes earned three pins starting with #2 Sterling Dias at 109, while #10 Emily Frost won via tech. fall at 130.

Against fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa, the Hawkeyes won six of the seven matches of the dual. #2 Sterling Dias earned a ranked win over #8 Isabella Morales. Iowa earned two more pins, two more tech. falls and a win via decision en route to a 25-20 win.

In the final dual of the day, Iowa faced off against #8 Simon Fraser and came from behind for the sweep. #2 Sterling Dias started off the dual with a pin over Gina Bolognese, but SFU won the next two matches and picked up three forfeit wins. However, the Hawkeyes rallied. #1 Reese Larramendy went 3-0 on the day, picking up a tech. fall win over #10 Paige Maher, while #7 Alivia White pinned #4 Julia Richey to give Iowa the win.

“This was an important challenge for us to face at this point in our season,” said Reese Larramendy. “Every team member stepped up and gave a 100% effort, which is what we do in practice every single day, overcome challenges.”
