Anthony Davis has been playing like the Godzilla everyone knew he would transform into when he first came into the NBA after winning an NCAA Championship at Kentucky in 2012. Just two days removed from putting up a 19-rebound, four-block performance, Davis posted another monster stat line. On Friday, Davis scored 36 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while tacking on two steals and a block in a high-scoring affair with the Indiana Pacers. The Lakers held on to the win 150-145 in the offensive gauntlet. Davis’s 36 points tied a game-high and included a 3-pointer, his third in as many games.

Over those last three games, Davis is averaging 27 points, 16.7 rebounds, and two blocks per contest over his last three games, all Los Angeles wins. The Lakers are once again hovering in the play-in portion of the standings but Davis is doing everything he can to bump his team to the top six.

Friday’s victory came at the expense of Isaiah Jackson and the Indiana Pacers. Jackson finished with five points and four rebounds in his 13 minutes off the bench. He and the Pacers will stick around in the City of Angels to play the Clippers tonight. Oscar Tshiebwe is not with the team as he continues to pull down every rebound available for the Indiana Mad Ants in the G League (Seriously, he had 26 rebounds and 26 points in their last game).

Other BBNBA Notes

  • Tyrese Maxey played all but four minutes in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 121-17 win over the Clippers. He dropped 24 points and six assists along the way. The win broke a two-game skid as he nearly single-handedly tries to keep Philly in the playoff mix until Joel Embiid returns. Brandon Boston Jr. had four points in 12 minutes off the bench.
  • Anthony Davis wasn’t the only former Kentucky player to finish with 16 rebounds on Friday. Bam Adebayo also accomplished that feat. He also had 15 points and five steals as the Heat blew out the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-84.
  • Two Kentucky rookies, Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston, both scored in the game NBA game on Friday. Wallace had an off-shooting night and ended up with just five points in 24 minutes, and Livingston chipped in two points in mop-up time as his Bucks blasted the Thunder 118-93. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a game to forget, scoring just 12 points in the loss.
