In October, the LSU football staff pulled off one of the biggest flips in the 2024 recruiting cycle when Texas A&M five-star offensive line commitment Weston Davis flipped his commitment from the Aggies to the Tigers.

Now, the Beaumount (Texas) native has officially signed with the Tigers.

LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis was key in getting Davis on board. The five-star is ranked by On3 as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country, the No. 20 overall prospect in America and a Top 5 recruit in Texas.

Prior to his decision to flip to LSU, Davis was Texas A&M’s second-highest ranked commitment, per the On3 rankings for the 2024 class.

Davis is LSU’s highest-ranked commitment for the cycle.

LSU adds a 5-star to an already solid OL haul

The addition of Weston Davis not only gives the Tigers a five-star prospect, but also bolstered an already impressive offensive line class.

On Wednesday, the Tigers are set to sign a pair of Top 12 offensive tackle prospects on On3 in Davis and North Carolina four-star Ethan Calloway.

LSU also has commitments in from two interior offensive linemen out of Louisiana in Khayree Lee and Joseph Cryer, as well as Texas offensive tackle Ory Williams.

With five offensive linemen committed, LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis has put together an impressive haul for the third straight recruiting cycle.

What are some initial thoughts when you think about Weston Davis?

Power: “Weston Davis is one of the most physically gifted offensive tackles in the 2024 cycle. He’s one we have been high on at On3 for the entirety of the process. We’ve liked what we have seen from him. He added a fifth star in our most recent rankings update.

“I think Weston is a guy who is really just scratching the surface of his potential. He has an extremely high ceiling. He is 6-foot-6, 280 pounds with some of the longest arms among the offensive tackles in the 2024 cycle. His arm length is well over 35-inches.”

What stands out about Davis as a prospect?

“This is a guy who was a basketball-first athlete. The last few years he has taken on football, and he’s playing at a high level as a senior. I think he has a lot of potential to continue improving in pass protection, but he’s a nasty run blocker who is physical. When you consider his frame, movement skills and physicality, it’s a great foundation for (LSU offensive line coach) Brad Davis to work with and continue to develop him.”

What’s your view on the trajectory Davis is on when it comes to the transition to LSU?

“I think he probably has to sit a year, but he is a high upside prospect. I would be surprised if he wasn’t a starter at LSU within his second or third year, and he’s a guy we project to have a high ceiling from an NFL Draft perspective. He’s also a significant player on one of the top basketball teams in the country at Beaumont United, so that gives you an indication of his movement skills. And he shows that on Friday nights, as well. I really like his block finishing as a senior. He really works to finish blocks and puts guys in the dirt with authority on a weekly basis.”

What does the addition of Davis say about the success LSU has had recruiting the offensive line?

“When you look at how LSU is evaluating and recruiting at offensive line, I think Brian Kelly and Brad Davis have done a great job of flipping the room. LSU’s offensive line has turned into a strength, and it projects as a strength moving forward with their talent coming in.

“I think Weston Davis with Lance Heard in back-to-back cycles, with Will Campbell holding down left tackle, that’s a phenomenal haul of offensive tackles the last several years. Davis is the headliner of what’s a really good offensive line class for LSU in 2024. This is a big pickup who we are really high on in the rankings. This is a huge get for LSU.”
