LSU commitment Ju’Juan Johnson and Lafayette Christian Academy kicked off the 2023 regular season against Acadiana High.

In the matchup of Lafayette area programs, Johnson and LCA didn’t blink en route to a 61-38 win over a Class 5A opponent.

The star of the show: Johnson, who totaled eight touchdowns on the night.

Johnson picks up where he left off in The Dome

LCA fell short of another state title trophy in December, but Johnson was magnificent in the 52-48 loss to St. Thomas More.

Johnson logged an LHSAA state championship game record for total offensive yards in a game with 585.

In the first game of his senior season, the four-star kept the production rolling.

Johnson passed for 317 yards, rushed for 145 yards and totaled eight touchdowns to finish with 462 yards of total offense in the 61-38 win over Acadiana.

The trips to the end zone were also split evenly as Johnson passed for four touchdowns and rushed for four touchdowns.

Johnson is next up for LSU at cornerback

While Johnson plays quarterback in high school, he landed an offer from LSU as a cornerback prospect.

No, the LCA star doesn’t play cornerback in high school, but the Tigers are more than confident in the four-star making the transition to defense after he shined at LSU’s Elite Camp in back-to-back summers.

Johnson is a Top 300 prospect and the No. 27 cornerback prospect on the On3 Industry Rankings, and another big season at LCA will boost his recruiting stock even further.

He’s one of four cornerbacks committed to the Tigers for the 2024 cycle, joining Ondre Evans, Cai Bates and Wallace Foster. Evans and Bates are on board as corners, while Foster is likely set to play nickel at the college level.

LSU also has a pair of Louisiana four-star safeties committed in Dashawn McBryde and Joel Rogers.
