On Thursday morning, the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program and head coach Jim Larranaga added another member to its 2025 recruiting class after Putnam Science Academy (Ct.) four-star center Ben Ahmed announced his pledge to the Canes.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pounder chose Miami over Xavier and Cincinnati less than a week after his official visit with the Hurricanes when he had the chance to get a full look at what the program had to offer.

“I’ll be going to the University of Miami,” Ahmed said at his announcement. “Just the relationship I had with the coaches on that visit (was key). The whole coaching staff, players – I just enjoyed that visit.”

He also told CaneSport that on the visit “They just showed me how I could come in and fit the program. They also showed me my strengths and weaknesses. They let me know what I had to work on and showed me players just like me that they’ve put in a better situation from when they got there and throughout their stay there, which stood out to me.”

Ahmed, who is the No. 60 overall and No. 5 ranked center in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, says seeing Miami’s staff not only praise his game but show him what areas he needed to improve also played a big role in his commitment.

“That’s even more reason why I respect the coaching staff,” Ahmed said. “They’re just real with me and told me how it is. That’s the type of people you want to have around you. They’re going to tell you how it is and not talk about the positive every time.”

Ahmed is now the second member of Miami’s 2025 class, joining fellow four-star prospect G Matthew Able. Like Ahmed, Able is a top prospect in the 2025 class, coming in as the No. 37 overall prospect in this year’s recruiting cycle.

“I saw Matthew at the Adidas All-American camp, and I spoke to him on my visit,” Ahmed said. “I know about his game.”

As the Hurricanes look to continue to add more prospects to their growing 2025 class, Ahmed hopes to see elite prospects Cameron and Cayden Boozer join the class next. They could announce soon and are choosing between Miami and Duke.

“I really do want to play with them,” Ahmed said. “Cayden liked my post when I released my final three schools, and he doesn’t follow me, but he liked the post. I have a great feeling that it could be Miami for them. I’ll text them and give them reasons why they should commit.”

So what should Miami fans expect from Ahmed when he gets to Coral Gables?

“I’m just someone who’s always trying to win,” Ahmed said. “I’m always going to come out and try to put the team in the best situation to win. Whether that is getting rebounds, scoring in the post, or being a great teammate in general.

“I’m a player that can score in the post, a great rebounder,” Ahmed said. “I’m always going to bring positive energy during practice and the game.”
