The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team has landed its first commitment from a high school prospect under new head coach Jai Lucas. Former Villanova signee and Montverde Academy (Fla.) four-star shooting guard Dante Allen committed to the Canes following his official visit to Miami April 13.

“Man, it was great,” Allen told CaneSport. “It felt great getting down there in person, being able to check out the basketball facilities, and just being with the coaching staff and building a relationship with them. I got to learn more about their plan for me—how they see me right now and how they see me developing in the future.”

Allen is the No. 63 overall prospect and No. 19 shooting guard in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking—a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also ranked as the No. 13 player in Florida.

Prior to his senior campaign at Montverde Academy, Allen played his high school basketball locally in South Florida at Riviera Prep, where he helped the Bulldogs capture consecutive state titles during his sophomore and junior years.

This past season for the Eagles, Allen averaged 11.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, per MaxPreps. He is one of four blue-chip seniors on the Eagles’ roster.

While on his official visit Allen also had the chance to reconnect with new Miami assistant coach Andrew Moran, who coached him on the AAU travel circuit with the Nightrydas program. Moran has led the program for several years, and Allen believes their established bond could be extremely beneficial for his growth.

“It’s something that is really big,” Allen said. “Coach Moran has been coaching me for a lot of years, and he knows how to use me as a player. And also, as a high-level trainer, he knows how to develop players. Having him down there is really cool, and having him on staff is a really good opportunity.”

Allen is Miami’s lone pledge from the 2025 recruiting class but joins former New Mexico guard Tru Washington, Indiana forward Malik Reneau, TCU center Ernest Udeh Jr., and Michigan guard Tre Donaldson on Miami’s growing roster.

“The one thing is that they’ve had to build through the portal and get older guys, but they think that can help me,” Allen said. “Getting guys around me with experience—who are winners and have played at high-level programs—so I can learn from them. And from there, I’d compete against them while also learning, which could really help in my development. And if I need to be back for however many years, they could build the program around me. But for the first year, just learning from the older guys and taking in what they’ve learned and seen.”

Allen, the son of former Villanova and NBA forward Malik Allen, chose Miami over Michigan and Stanford.
